    antenna for 951x northstar

I bought a new bay boat, previous owner had a 951X northstar
chartplotter. the antenna is no good. it has a splitter on the antenna wire to make two connections to the back of the unit.
one connection is a like a radio connection the other looks like a standard gps antenna connection. like on garmins

I contacted northstar and they said that I could use just the smaller antenna connection to receive gps but not dgps

the antenna that they recommend is a an150 type. this is hard to find.

does anyone know if a standard say garmin or other dome type antenna will work and receive satellite info. on this unit.

I am going to replace it with a more modern unit next year
would just like to get this one working now to get me by.

I know these were very popular units, if anyone has any info
    it would be appreciated

Do you have another gps system on the boat? If so you can connect your 951 to that unit via nmea0183 to get position data. If not then AN150's are certainly available, not too common any more though. They are a little over $200. If you need one let me know.

ya thanks, but I was not looking to buy the an150 antenna because it is $200
I wanted to know if anyone had ever connected a normal gps mushroom antenna to this unit and had any success
