I just wanted to share another top notch experience with a company I have dealt with for years with service repairs for consumers boats, and my personal vehicles.
The other morning I woke up to a completely dead battery system. Just the night before we had been at Auto zone or one of those parts facilities and load tested both batteries and one needed to be replaced and the other was low.
During the purchase the auto zone store clerk was asked why he was recommending a cheaper battery with lesser CCA's than the original??? He told me it didn't matterwhen you have any engine the CCA matters ask the Optimax fans out there what the min requirements are for thier batteries and how boat manufacturers still to this day boffle that one...
Anyway he was informed it did make a difference, especially with a 6 liter Diesel and cold starts in the winter, and we were not out to be ele cheapos here..
We replaced the defective battery, and reinstalled the newer old one. I was hesitant of just sticking the batteries in and not having a full charge on them but it was pouring dark and cold and in they went.
It started fine, and ran fine woohoo, drove it for a day. Next morning WTF no start...
Get it jumped and started and to Ampco they informed us with the mileage and low batteries we needed a new alternator and the older but newer battery needs to replaced and the CCA's could not be even 20 off or problems could occur
The alternator replacement was extremly fast and the truck was dropped off at 7am as soon as the techs walked in at 7:30 it was being worked on. With my luck I'm surprised that it didn't take days to repair as a normal shop would take. Just a stroke of luck there for once.
The batteries took a long time to come up and they didn't let the truck go for almost 3 hours because the batteries where taking a while to come up.
Just thankfully we had the right people handing this.
As for pricing a new alternator would of cost me than the$240.00 it did (tax included). The parts and labor for this repair would of been way more if i would of taken it to someone else or my normal repair shop.
Thank you Ampco and your awesome mechanics!!!
PS. I also learned while in thier shop what a redneck budwiser satilitte antenna looks like and that they also make Hydraulic hoses, I dont remember off the top of my head who the shop that made the hoses were from our travel lift but it was a disaster dealing with them..
