    Airmar B260 vs B270

Anybody have any experiences with the new B270 Transducer. The B260 is 19 degree 50khz and 6 degree 200khz while the B270 is 25 degree for 50/200. Is this better for most detection? I fish in shallow water most often (50-200 ft) but would like the advantage of the wide beam offshore without given up precise wreck detection. Anybody have experience with both?

I have both transducers. They are designed for 2 different uses. The wide beam is great in shallow water out to say 30 fathoms but the 260 will penetrate deeper and give you a better pic in deeper water. I use the 260 more than the 270 since we do spend a load of time offshore. If I was going to get only 1 , I would get the 260.

    Thanks

Thanks for the insite. I love the idea of the 25 degree 200/50 but would hate to lose the depth when offshore. Looks like the B260 is the way to go and maybe add a single 200/25 degree

Actually, the 260 does a pretty good job inshore. If you put the A scope feature on, it will tell you how wide the cone is at the bottom.

Interesting, I have used the A Scope many time but did not know that it would tell me the size of the cone at the bottom. How dose that work?

On my Raymarine sounder, the number shows up at the bottom of the A scope cone. I am not sure about other manufacturer's units.
