    Question Airmar B-260 for Furuno???

    Boat 31' Contender FA
    Dual Furuno NavNet II's
    Black Box #BBFF1

    Current Transducer B-45 Airmar
    http://www.airmartechnology.com/uploads/brochures/B45.pdf

I am looking at purchasing the Airmar B-260 transducer and need to replace my current one which is fiberglassed flush mounted in the bottom of the V in my hull.
    http://www.airmartechnology.com/uploads/CatalogPages/cat_83.pdf

I know the B-45 is larger and heavier, am I going to have any problems mounting it the same way, making the hole larger and deeper?
    http://www.airmartechnology.com/uploads/InstallGuide/17-008-05.pdf

I want it through hull design as it includes a temperature sensor.

    Thanks In Advance!!!

If your Contender is like mine the original transducer was glassed in at the factory similar to a pocket mount with the only difference being it was glassed in permanently. It was quite a job getting it out but I eventually removed mine with a little persistance!!!! And a big Hammer. I would guess your transducer is straight down in the bilge access.
After I removed mine I installed a B-260 in a pocket mount. Many folks are afraid to put holes in their boat but I can tell you that you will be surprised how much Glass you have at the keel of your Contender. The pocket mount B260 requires a pretty big hole but with a pocket mount you can eventualy remove the transducer if it needs to be replaced. Airmar has a few models now that are the exact same measurements of the B260 and these models will be around for a while. Here is a few pics of the pocket mount I did. Hope it helps. All a pocket mount is is a cup that the transducer fits into. I made a fiberglass mold of the b260 and the glassed that housing into the keel of the boat....Mark

    After the glass work.

    After the gel coat.

    inside the bildge.

If you guys are out looking for tuna you might consider the new Airmar SS270 (same dimensions as the B260) that has a 24 degree cone angle. It is pricey but perfect for covering a lot of ground.

My current transducer is in the back 1/4 of the hull and the new one will go in the same location.

Can't wait to get her in and get offshore!!!

I will have to measure to see exactly where the center is located. Since the old transducer I had gave me good readings in that location I used the same location. My original was installed by Contender.
Jim have you heard any realword results on the the SS270 this is one of the transducers that I was interested in but wasnot out yet when I got the B260. What kind of results in +1500 depths?? Thanks Mark
