    This Ain't Good,

Thinkin about another one. Yes the wife is real happy about it too! Said something about "divorce", seem's like an appropriate name for a boat. Anyhow the boat has a bare teak cockpit deck and I have no personal experience with them. Don't see any rot. From walking on it, I would think the traction would be OK. What if anything do you do for maintainence? Is this an asset or a liability? Thank's, Frank

Its an assett as far as I am concerned, but many don't like the maintenance. Check for splintering & splitting and cupping. Also, if its over a wood /plywood substrate be certain that it is reasonably true so that water will actually drain and not puddle in areas. Maintenance is not as bad as people make it out to be. Once you get it restored though, you will have to post a "No shoes with black soles" sign.

    skipbait,

Thank's for the reply. I'm not interested in making it "pretty", it'll be used on a hopefully daily basis fishing. I fully expect fish boxes, rod's being dropped, etc... will mark it up. I know some folk's that go way over board making their boat's pleasing to the eye. I'm looking more for functional, any suggestion's? Thank's, Frank

Puddling is a problem, if the deck is not properly supported so I would see how the deck drains. There are several other things I would do. Some would agree, some may not:
    1. If there is enough meat and its not cupping, start with a good sanding.
    2. Make sure all the caulking is sound. Redo as needed.
    3. Oil the sheet of it if its old.
    4. As needed, clean with sudzy amonia going cross grain when you scrub and then rinse with fresh water.

If all else fails, there is always glass.
