John, I want to catch some saltwater catfish on the Sportfishermen.com boat!
I have the etecs and love them. I don't fish in shallow water so the problem that you have wouldn't really effect me and one of my best frends is an master tec.
I totally understand about not having reliable service, that would suck.
The specs that they claim on the etecs are right on. I couldn't believe the power and fuel burn, not to mention no smoke and very little noise.
If you can get them serviced locally I wouldn't consider anything else.
but the Merc / Yama 225's we have now are under warrantee till 2011 and we have had to pay out the nose because of "related fuel problem" the mechanic said ( and the friggin owner NEVER even called Merc to tell them what was up!!! Pisses you off so bad to know that even the merc / yama filters ( three of them ) can not keep crap out of the fuel pumps... and the merc mechanic cannot be straight with you and even call merc! we had a black max long ago and it didn't last 3 months.. (earlier post...).. I do have in front of me still a 'How are we doing' ..Service questionair that I'd like to see them fill out though.. it's only if you make enough stink on posts that they step up for most of us we never see any service and if they want my number is 954-937-1186 they can call me direct and talk to me... still pissed about how they bounce as a company and we did buy a e-tek for our Mako and I love it! 40% better fuel no smoke and only 1 issue of ideling the engine up and aligning the shift... Merc if you see this your mechanics ONLY cater to the rich and fancy new boats down here and our 1973 Bertram that we repowered with your engines has so much more boat than most of the new ones do...but thats what ya get for spending over $25K with them.. still thinking about what we get here...

how are the verados doing?
Man - this is an old throwback thread - I saw the title and thought Worldcat Lemon bought a new Worldcat with Verados ...![]()
It sure is an oldie! Wish I'd seen it way back then, I might have been able to dissuade a client from putting Verado's on his boat when we built it in 05. Since then it has been nothing but a constant nightmare and doesn't look like it will ever improve. I deal with virtually every major engine manufacturer both OB and IB (diesel) and if I add up all the bad cases I've dealt with over 25 years, they all don't equal the bad times with this one set of Verado's and they only have 375 hours on them!!! I understand big corporations trying to save money but Merc's performance has been beyond bizzare in how they handle "service bulletins" and warranty repair. Try to get tech or sales support and if you don't buy $500K a year they won't even talk to you. SOrry to rave on, but I just got done arguing with them about a warranty startup date and saw this thread resurrected. Maybe they are better now than they were but after six years of dealing with them they could drop a brand new set at my door and I would refuse delivery!
The fact that I know Merc Dealer's, that won't put them on their own boat speak's volume's to me. Whenever in doubt of any engine, just look at what the guy's that have a "dog in the fight" are using. If they aren't using them, maybe you shouldn't either!!! Make's sense to me. Sorta like a cook that won't eat their own cooking in my book!!! Frank
The black beauty's are running great as long as there is fuel in the tanks lol
How many hours on those black beauties?
What hp r they?
