    8.2 Detroits

Looking at replacing 300 HP 8.2's not a whole lot of room, 6b cummins look like a close swap out. Any one do a similar swap. Looking for Idea's before I get into it.

    315 B's,

Will make you a good choice. Nothing will fit with any kind of re-power you are talking about, but when it's done you'll not look back. The "re-con" engines come with a 2 year warrantee, if the install is done to spec's you'll have something that should last you. Frank

I had the 8.2's in my Old 36 Hatteras and put in the 315 B's.
In the corner the boat would 20 33kts, cruise about 22-23 at about 12gph. Buy the extended warranty. Had to get new wheels, new gears, new shaft, new thru-hulls,new engine bedding.
But it was worth it. As Frank said ther re-cons cannot be beat.

Kind of an old post, but I'm getting close to doing the same thing. Getting closer to making the decision to move from 8.2's to 370B reman's. From my research it's the best repower in terms of cost, fit, and power increase.

    Sorry Charlie,

Yes the Cummin's 6BT is a good choice. They have more torque, part's are readily available, and will allow more engine space, not to mention weight. Are you planning to use you're old transmission's in the re-power? If so make sure of the HP rating, a common mis step. Good luck with the repower. Frank

Planning on selling the 8.2's and twin Disc's if this goes through. Going to go with ZF 1.53's and keep the same running gear at a 4 to 1 safety ratio.

Hey Charlie give me a call if you want, I did a repower with a pair of 370s, I did alot of homework on the small engines.Yanmar is another choice but expensive,Iveco another choice they are cummins bottom end, just gonaa be few places for parts. You can still find mechanical ones if you look hard, they have to be remans to sell, but you save good bit of money. 804-512-6501.I had a good contact for motors not sure about it now, have not heard from him in a while, but i will be glad to pass it on.

    Keep your ears open

Potential repower shoppers- the Cummins Quantum series engines are due to be released as ReCons in 2010! Though the QSM 11 has been out for many years, as a ReCon, the new ones will include QSC,QSB and alllegedly QSL models. Before anyone gets too excited, the pricing is still unknown. Believe it when you see them, but the order board is open. Hoping to get the first one for a boat in Hatteras Best regards, The "other" Frank

8.2's are good motors, we used to have one in a charter boat I worked on as a kid. We had head gasket problems every august for 3 years. The problem was the head bolts were too small once a turbo was put on. Once we upgraded the head bolts never had the isssue again and they ran great. If you go with the 8.2 just inquire about what size head bolts are being used.
