    Talking 63 Bert Delam Photos

Did anyone check these out? I'm not promoting YF, just amazed by these pics. There's considerable speculation as to what happened, and Bertram might very well be holding the bag on this one!

Rumor has it she's for sale too... Welcome to The New Bertram... "Redefining the Wet Ride"

Whats the plan? Do they intend to raise her? Looks like bait has already took up residence on her, shouldbe a grouper on her next season.

WOW..... UNBELIEVABLE........HOLY SHIT!!!!! I heard the rumors flying around about this boat on what happened. I have to say that back in the late 80s my father had a 37 Topaz and the capitain at the time had been drinking and decided to take a joy ride late at night and struck the seabuoy at about 27 knots. He hit the buoy not straight on but close about 11 oclock I would say on the port bow. A much
bigger buoy than the one shown in these pics, and it pulled back the bow rail crushed the rub rail about about 4ft wide and punched a hole in the hull just above the water line about 2ft in dia. It gouged the bottom of the boat on the port side really bad but did not go through the bottom. The running gear on the port side had some serious damage the struts were bent the rudder was bent straight back and when the wheel hit the buoy it blew the transmission totally in half. The boat did not sink but it took almost a year to fix all the damage. Looking at these pics I think the boat just imploded I heard of this happening years ago to a Jim Smith going to Mexico. The crew said it was a big swell and came off a down sea wave and they heard a load bang and the next thing they knew they were in the water and the boat was gone in an instant, a surfboard the mate was taking with him on the trip floated up and the capitain and himself held onto it and were picked up by another boat on there way to Mexico. They had thought they had hit a submerged container because what else would make a boat go down that fast and cause that kind of damage. Thats my .02 worth and I am no expert by any means but I dont think that buoy sank that boat. I really wish I could remember the the name of that Jim Smith it was something like Enigma but I know that was not it.... can anyone remember.

yup this is an unreal boat tragedy and far from being settled.....i really feel sorrow for the buyer

yes old Berts were known to be bulletproof....and after hearing some problems with the newer sleds early 2000's & up......i hate to admit it.....but their track record is not the best.......i read all 25+ pages on YF and have to agree with what most have concluded......whether she hit the buoy or not.....she would not of ripped apart and lost her stern the way she did.....she had issues prior to her last voyage asea....
