We have been logging some hours on the old girl and there wasn't much of a change to see so I haven't posted much but here is an update.
After sistering the frames the engine room has been totaly glassed with 1708 cloth and then coated with ad-tech. I sprayed two coats of primer on her and we are getting it ready for the top coat.
We bolted down the engine stringer caps that we had fabricated last night but they are not shown in this picture.

53 ft Bobby Sullivan repower project
Hey Troy,
That engine room is starting to look familiar. Amazing Bobby does not change much in his construction techniques. Only thing he will do is change the amount of glass he puts in his engine rooms depending on the hp and speed of the boats. Plus a couple other secrets.
Can't wait to see my boat in that stage. My power package will be here in about 4 weeks. Coming along, should start to plank in a couple weeks.
Take it easy.
I guess there isn't any need to change whats not broke Keith, he's been building them for a long time hasn't he. This project was overkill I think but it's like a Sherman tank now.
Had to stop by Cummins in Chesapeake to pick up the display panels for the helm yesterday, lots of pretty engines in there. They have a really sweet deal on the 660 hp QSM11 recon motor with a great warranty.
I know you are looking forward to it, it's cool to watch it all come together, take lots of pictures, they are neat to look back on later.
I see where you sistered the side frames. How far up did you take the plywood? and how far down on the strigers? Is this the boat my buddy Ellson has been working on ?
Thanks,
JW
That would be the one Banshee, when he's not out raping the ocean (ha-ha)
We sistered both sides of the frames or ribs. We incorperated the stiff knees into one side as a sister also and the other side is just the length of the frame it self.
All four of the engine stringers are sistered on one side, we used 3/4 for all of it and then everything got wrapped in 1708 cloth. We added a piece of 3/4 over the front bulkhead which basically doubled it up and added horshoes to the front of the engine stringers at the bulkhead.
I am heading down to the outer banks for new years and will be there for a couple of days and would love to head to one of those OLD SCHOOL boat yards and hear some stories. I am thinking already about my next boat and a carolina built boat is on the list, so if u have info on those yards or some contacts to help can u send them.
