Hey guys what are your thoughts on the Bertram 38' express. I know they didn't make many of these. Some things I should be aware of look out for? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thumbs up

I have a 37 Bertram convertible. The 38 special is an awesome boat. It goes through seas like an animal. Very well made, fast, wide, great cockpit. I seen these boats run and it is nice. A guy at Bree-Zee-Lee has one. His is very clean. Beautiful boat. You cannot go wrong with a 38 Special

Thanks for the info guys keep it coming please!!

Most of these boats are powered w/ Cat 3208's which will cruise at 22-23knts from my understanding. A little slow, yes, it is well made, has a great cockpit. For anyone that has repowered what have they repowered with? What type of results have they had? Thanks again!!

Mike

Some of the 37 and 38 Bertrams had 3208's with 375 hp. These boats are to heavy for that hp, especially with the deep vee configuration.

They also were powered with Detroit 6V71's. One of the few boats this power package was available in as a marine engine. I sold one a few years ago for a client and it was a little faster than the 3208's. I can't remember the horsepower on the 6V71's, but they were bigger than the 3208 Cats.
