Whats that a clam rake around the prop?

That was a working boat huh? Not made for lookin at? But made to abuse and comeback for more! Jim the guy I buy my penske board from, Tom at barnegate fiberglass was explaining how to work with penske coosa and he apparently repaired the decks of a lot of those barnegate light lobster and long line boats. Hes a hands on grinding sort of guy like us. You might want to contact him as his prices and his good deals for the small shops is very friendly

    Bore Us????

How could we be bored with a boat re-build story told in pictures?

As far as rough.... these were like Clydesdales (sp?) they worked for a living. They had to earn their keep and they show it. "Rough" on a working boat is a badge of honor. It was only when guys like Billy Joel (I know he's not the first guy to do this, but being from L. I. he's the most obvious to me) started getting into this style of boat for pleasure that they became shiny. My old man's boat was rough right from the builder. He wanted to go fishing damn it! and it was strictly business. It didn't even have a head. "They only attract women!"

BTW, the prop cage is perfect proof of the workboat heritage. Does it affect performance? You bet! Pot warps around the shaft slow you down!

    Please keep 'em coming.

Avenger, do you remember Sal Mannino? he was building glass over wood down easters in Sayville back in the late 70's early 80's. I almost had him build one for me but then switched gears and bought a Harborcraft Rampage 270. Major switch

    WHO????

Here's a pic of my dad's boat, a 1982. I have better shots, but these are the only one's I have on this computer at the moment.

Yep, I remember Sal Mannino. One bulletproof boat. I learned most of what I know now on that boat. Slaughtered a lot of fish too.

It broke my heart to let that boat go after my father passed. I felt like I was selling his dream.

Very cool Jimmy, looking forward to folling this thread and your work on her.

Down south we call the rails in the stern, rub rails for rubbing the piling and not the hull.

No hijack intended, and thanks, I really did love that boat. Unfortunately after my dad was gone there were just too many responsibilities and obligations to give the boat the attention it deserved and I decided it was better to let it go to someone who woud appreciate it and maintain it rather than let it deteriorate. She fell out of documentation about five years ago, and I have no idea what's become of her since.

BTW, I have a feeling that your kid growing up around stuff like that will more than appreciate it. I'm trying to give mine the same good start.
