do not do that!

yes that is a great boat IF it had some diesels. But those Creatures that said no up or back there also know what they are saying! hell there was a hatteras here for 32k with brand new yanmars and phazor genset . look into some of the beefy carolina hulls even brand new with a single diesel even! but getting your big block fuel sucking lesson the hard way is not cool in 2008. plus jimmy's old and he knows best...

I trust jimmy's opinion as he is the one who sold me my mako.Just looking to trade up for not alot of money. If i could add more fuel to the mako i would just repower and go.put over 200 hrs since last aug,and she doesnt come out till the middle of dec.Just trying to get to the edge for hopefully a yellowfin bite in oct.Couldnt even make the claw this year had to settle for 30-70lbs within the 40+ range

we would use a set of 19g portable tanks on the old mako if we were funning further than 70nm-that gave you more than enough fuel...those makos had an extra fuel option, the livewell was deleted and a tank was placed there-you may wanna look into that.another option is,i've got a set of late model injected engines-these will cut the fuel almost in half
i'll give you the cold hard truth, not the fairy tale, you certainly don't want that old dog pacemaker,it's gonna cost you a fortune to run and maintain...
i logged quite a few miles on the old mako, that was a real solid rig.the enclosure on that is fantastic, the boat rides great, and it's cheap to maintain and run.lost count of the tuna fish i put in it,caught quite a few billfish from that rig too.
if you're dead set on moving up,than do yourself a favor and keep looking around.in that size range you don't want gas power-EVER !! just like i said,if you get .5nmpg with that rig, you're gonna be lucky-250g is gonna take you to the 100line but it's not gonna bring you home.ol' quest gave you some good advice too,ol' ted there he knows what he's talking about,he redoes old 28 bertrams, pulls the gas inboard engines and sets them up with outboards-nice
the market is dead right now,it's a buyers market.deals are out there to be found, you just gotta look-downside is,don't expect to get a big return on the boat you're selling, and don't expect to sell it fast...

If you want a to see what I do to these Berts ...

come down and go real fishing for a day or even to Bimini for 3 days. Then you can see how they handle, what they can take and the good and bad.. I have not found much of anything bad by the way that cannot be fixed easy. Gotta hand it to the bert guys they did great work. If you want to fish / sleep up to 6 in a good way or entertain for 14-16 with a real potty / head (yes we did this more than once) have 40 gal. water, 200 - 350 gal. fuel , room and storage, and stick a set of 250 e tecks on the back of one (fast at lower rpms awesome fuel burn at 90 gallons of fuel to 1 gallon oil )and make it hold enough fuel for a two day trip you will be happy. we use ours and people like it. we dive a bunch also. 225 four yama's push ours and top out is still 39.8 knots on the garmin still. 250's push 44.9 knots ,we have been to the dry tortugas and the islands due to my wife has a roof over her head and a potty. the boats are easy to find and bert even made like 14 of them off the line long ago with omc drives. dry ride but in a big sea you see a lot from the flybridge! pretend your always standing on your t-top height.. now come out of the water..hahaha...) they land and ride good! going to outboards with the custom displacment bracket we made that was v-shaped back to get the most out of it was the cats ass they even back up straight. rig them with upper, lower (under the flybridge seat box), and inside / cabin electronic controls and add a auto pilot your happy. fun to drive boat I continually try to work on balance.

My father has an 88 35' Egg Harbor for sale, it has 454's and 400 gallons, we could make it to the canyon average 70-80 miles but returned on fumes. Trust me the ride is great, the boat is beautiful, its a great ride. I am gonna hate to see it go.........But its just no worth taking it out anymore.

Boat: 26' REGULATOR 2X 250 HPDI'S
Home Port: HOUSE OF THE FISH TACO
Best Catch: GOT MY BUTT KICKED BY A SWORDFISH
Occupation: HARDWOOD LUMBER IMPORT / EXPORT
CENTER CONSOLE

DUDE - TRADE IN THE MAKO FOR A BIGGER CENTER CONSOLE. I HAD A MAKO AND STEPPED UP TO A REGULATOR AND I AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT. THE OVERNIGHTERS ARE TOUGH, BUT KEEP FISHIN , DRINK MORE COFFEE, AND DRESS PROPERLY. THE CENTER CONSOLES OF TODAY ARE BIG AND FAST. PLENTY OF STORAGE, PLENTY OF FUEL AND IF YOU LOOK TO THE RIGHT BUILDER IT IS A DRY RIDE. THE PACEMAKER IS A BOAT FOR THE 78 FISHERY. BUY NEW, BUY AMERICAN.
