34 Venture

looking at a few used 34 ventures, it seems most of them come with yam 250's (2) was just wondring if these boats where under powered or if they where right on the money. Was thinking that they would need 300's or better but maybe not. Thanks for the feed back

I dont know what type of power you want 2/4stroke but keep in mind that the Hpdi and opti's burn A considerable amount of oil (hpdi more)and at $20-$30 bucks A gallon with your typical offshore run requiring 3-5gals of oil this may not be your best option.I would def put 4strokes on her and A min of 300-350hp.

Very nice boats

what model Yamaha 250's are they? I would stick with the 4-stokes they have been virtually bullet proof with pretty minor failures for the most part if any.

If they are HPDI's they are most likely original. The 250 4-strokes came out in 2005 and most repower to them. There is no simple way to tell, unless the owner is asked.

I'm not sure what the oil and fuel burn is with the 250 hpdis, Venture's are tanks and heavy boats.

The HPDI'S have been pretty good. They had an occasional oil pump go, but I know there was a recall issued to correct the 300's. I can't remember at the moment if the 250's were in it. As mentioned previously they are oil injected and some find it a pain. Just get yourself in the habit of keeping oil on the boat and at the house. Alot of people forget about it till the last minute normally at night when everything is closed.

Another thing to consider is your idle time and slow troll, the HPDI's can load up and foul spark plugs. We had a customer that had a good 1/2 hour idle out no wake zones of the lagoon and would foul out plugs.

The older Yamaha motors tend to get pretty salted up under the cowlings, causing nightmares if not cared for regularly.

Other than that compression check and pressure check the lowers and change the oil.

There are a few things that you want to check with the oil system. The remote oil tank filter, and the tanks itself. Some deck fills can leak if an o-ring is missing

Depending on hours and care the thermostats and water pumps should be done as well. Best bet is to get a copy of the maintenance schedule or the owners manual, go thru it and make sure its done. Its all preventive maintenance. With any used boat it is better to be safe than sorry do it so you know its done.

Have a yamaha dealer run the serial #'s and check for any open recalls. It will also show you if there has been any major failures for the most part.

Hope this helps

those boats ride nice and 250s will not be under powered..

i just feel that the ventures just like a lot of ccs on the market now are a little over prices for what they really are..

dont get me wrong they may be built like tanks.. but 150k for a 24 or 27 is a little much for a cc..

I don't think people get the price tag factor on the boats

The reason prices tags on these boats is their ability and agility. Take a Wellcraft for example vs a higher end. I know this from experience. You can not run these boats hard without shit just falling apart and needed a big tube of 5200 on the boat at all times. Grabrails should stay put right? Well they don't They do not hold up to being fished and ran hard. If you are going to baby and fish it normal, go for it. Wellcrafts are very nice boats for their style. Cheaper boats use cheaper hardware, workmanship and materials. Materials and hardware do matter. Do you want your bolsters faded in cracked within a year of the sun? Probably not

The 27 Venture I do not like one bit, forget about the price tag.
I am sure he can find a nice price on a 34, just as to do his homework and make sure it checks out!
