Shortfin, thanks for the info, the Yamaha 350 is $21,000+,they are getting me on the new type of hook up$800,guages & control$1200 & the 4 blade prop was around $650,scary stuff but at least I won't have stuffing boxes to pack, leaky rudder ports & the one I hate the most is getting rope in the wheel, with the outboard power trim it up take whatever out & on your way in minutes not hours not to mention hiring a diver to cut the rope out, been there done that,I will stick with the 4 stroke!I don't want to get too confident but I think the outboard is going to work well,I only want to be able to cruise 20 kts.,& with the 350 I think we can get mpg that will be worth having the Yamaha.I will get some pics when we start, especially of the keel section, hopefully we can help someone else out that might decide to try this.Ken has already had many calls from people that are interested in using outboards on his boats,he did a 28 BHM that will have an outboard, can't wait to see how that one goes.

My old man runs a 26 seaway with a 225 etec. Same style hull as you are dealing with just shorter. Just my 2 cents but you want to cut the deal as you outlined in this picture and then extend the keel all the way to the transom. Make the extension piece match up to where you outlined the cut and then pitch is back up so where it ends at the transom you are only 1 inch down off the hull. The ass end off that boat will be dangerous without any sort of keel back there. From experience you dont want to run that boat in a following sea with the flat transom. One minute you will be heading towards maine and then the next your going to PEI.

If you dont want to go through the keel extension then you have to add a feathering type of block to the back of that keel that goes to a point. You will cavitate like crazy with all the air bubbles forming off of a square end to your keel. Again another lesson learned the hard way when my dad took off his bracket and mounted the motor on the transom.

Hope this helps. I would hate to see you go through all the work and then have to haul the boat to fix it.

I trust Ken,he's been doing boats for a long time & he has talked to the engineers & I am going to stay out of it,I am one step away from the dinner jacket that ties in the back!I appreciate the input & can't wait to get going. My first trip will be to Scituate, fished out of there 2 years ago with my cousins we had a blast, look forward to another good year.

Have you ever seen the Shadow Line out of Green Harbor? An unsual 31 Duffy with twin outboards.

One of my friends told me about the boat,I am going back down in a couple of weeks & I am going to green harbor to check it out.I was told the motors aren't even the same. The 31 Duffy in my opinion is one of the best boats that Duffy built,I worked on a 35' & I would only take one as a gift if I had someone to buy it,they suck to work in the stern, why I couldn't tell you but slight SW chop running home in the afternoon I would have to put on my foul weather jacket to keep from getting soaked, hated it!The 34' was a dream boat, slow but steady & worked well for scallop dragging.
