28 foot BHM,
Hey guy's any knowledge or opinion's on these boat's in 28 ft ? Cummins 250 to 315 hp range. Had a 32 ft lobster hull when I commercial fished, yes she did roll with it's round bilge. You could not make her slam regardless, when it got rough just shoot the juice to her. I found it to be a great boat at the inlet's too. I've alway's liked the BHM 32's. If anyone out there has one or has spent time fishing one let me know, please. How's the ride, how did it fish, layout, how much time would it make with how much HP, how was the roll, too much roll to put a small tower on etc... Thanks alot,Frank, SeaPower

I started my search for a new downeast under 30' with the bhm. The thing that concerned me with it was that a company like atlantic boat works, who builds both BHM and Duffy's wouldn't be interested in the BHM 28. It seemed like a perfect fit between the duffy 31 and the duffy 26.
I got to talking to them and a couple of other people and they said the boat pushes a lot of water and is tough to move. i got the impression it was spencer lincoln ugly stepchild. It's all 2nd hand. I've never ridden one, and i know at least one person on Noreast.com loves it. The one thing i can say for sure is that if you do find that you like it, buy it direct from Steve...( i forgot his last name, but can get you his contact info if you want it). Don't mess with the broker pushing it. Steve has the molds and seems like a stand up guy. The broker, got me all the way up to portsmouth NH, from MD, with the promise of a ride, only to tell me once I called from the airport once i landed, that he couldn't get a ride for me. That made me more than a little mad.
I also can't understand what he brings to the table, except a commision of course, because Steve Law (i think that's right) seems like a good guy to work with on a project like this.
Good luck.

28 BHM/Seaworthy
I had one of Steve Law's 28 BHM/Seaworthy and it was a tank. Fish it offshore and in the bay and it was a great little boat that feels much bigger than her size. I purchased the boat used, but Steve treated me like I had purchased it from him. You do not need more than 300hp since the boat is happiest at 17-18kts. The roll is not bad since the beam is wide for a 28' boat. I can not speak to what a tower would do to the roll. Great trolling and good on the drift. If I was in the market for another downeast boat, the 28 Seaworthy would be on the top of my short list of 28' boats. But the Judge 36 Chesapeake would be my choice for a larger single screw boat, they are flat out awesome for fishing or cruising.

I fished a 32 in mass quite a few times and it was a heck of a boat. 5 guys capt and mate and lots of room. it is a built down hull that takes a lot of hp to move it. with 485hp it cruised at 18knts, could run in some very tough seas and was economical
I saw it get filled up after two full days fishing stellwagon and it took 87 gallons.
they do roll, worst running in a beam sea. will catch the swells and roll you while making way, they do not pound at all.
I had a friend with a 28, he had a 300 cummins in it, and cruise at 17knts, very big boat for a 28fter
