I have never seen any on the front..

first thing you do though on a 28 bert is take out the engines, trannys and EVERYTHING else you can get to in the engine compartment.. then take up the aft deck and use a big 22oz. claw hammer and claw out all the balsa rotted core and replace it! the fiberglass fuel tanks have got to be changed out also. the boats are 1 innerliner after another and most all of them are pure glass and very strong. re tabbing the inner-lineres is not that hard and I use 5200 and epoxy glass.

Hey Ted since you deal so much with the 28 Berts how have you addressed the drain holes for the hatches. Mine aren't tight or leak proof and I am looking at trying to replace them since I am redoing the paint. I have seen some deck drains in Westmarine but I think the smallest they have is 5/8" and then you have the lip around it. I haven't seen one in the store but I don't think I have enough room for it to fit. I thought about flaring a piece of copper and then trying to thread it to put a nut on it to make it fit snug. Any suggestions?

Hahahaha.. I have battled that for a while!!..

our boat we have, I fished on it with the family that owned it before. I got really tired of the hatches filling up the boat with water so I installed a rule shower / grey water pump out box and attached it to the rudder plate in the back. it has its own float switch and a bunch of inlets and has a strainer built in.. in my conversions I run a thick walled pvc conduit and epoxy glass fittings to the hatch wells. I just hate having salt water in the bilge. there were some guys talking about the shaft seals also...get them and the rudder seals..

Thanks Ted. That sounds like a good idea to try. I like the shaft seals and it probably won't be done this year but it is on my list to get done. I was hoping Capt. Jay would post some pics of his install so I could know how big of a job or a pain it will be.
