Has anyone ever ran a 23 contender? I'm looking at an 01 with twin yamahas. Seems kinda narrow, but I've heard some good things. Any problems with 150 hpdi's? thanks guys

23' contender with twin 150 hpdi's....a match made in heaven !!!!!
the contenders are an awsome rig-ride real well, built equally as well...those hpdi engines are tried and true-real reliable, very few mech problems...just gotta use a quality oil.cheap oil will foul the o2 sensor and can cause the engine to detonate due to an ultra lean fuel condition-there is a huuuuuuuuge difference in outboard oil !!!
2 words....excellent choice.....
Thats just what I wanted to hear. I think i like it better then the hydra sport/ ficht combo. I have no problem using the expensive yamalube, I ran it for 3 years in my ski.
Is the Yamalube you guys use for your outboards the same as the Yamalube I run in my snowmobiles?
If so, I consider it to be a fairly inexpensive oil in comparison to many, especially for a "factory" oil![]()
I know that in my ski I ran yamalube 2-w. It costs about 23 a gallon, which is kinda pricy because mercury oil costs about 15. I'm pretty sure that the outboards use the yamalube 2-M.
I have been to the canyon in a 21' Contender with a single 200 Yamadog. I didn't say it was smart, but my buddy want to go, so we did - i was VERY impressed. When it kicked up to 3' in the afternoon SW slop chop I felt very safe and confortable. I can only imagine the 23' being that much better.
Now that you mention it I think it IS 2-W.......Originally Posted by Arks and Sparks

i was out sailfishin' from tavernier today-went on a buddy's 23 contender-it has twin 150 4 strokes...
that boat rides awsome-tons of room-only draw back is the 4 stroke engines....the boat feels slow with them......you definatley want the hpdi's....
The problem with 4 strokes is that they are heavy and pron to breaking. 2 strokes are the way to go for outboards. I have a feeling that all the time and effort the outboard manufacturers have put into 4 strokes are going to bight them in the ASS! The hole shot from a 2 stoke is still a wonderful thing! Contenders are built around the corner from me. They are built very well. A quality boat.

I have a 31' Contender FA
Twin Yamaha 225 Four Strokes
Ride and power is awesome
Tops out just over 50 mph
I am very happy with the boat.... I have not ridden the 23' CC, but I had a dockmate who had a 27' and loves the boat. No lack of power, no weight problem, comes out of the hole very well, no smoke, no 2 cycle oil to fill up, very QUIET...
JMHO - It's the best way to go...
