Were does he keep the boat? I found trying to sell a Hatteras in the North East is difficult. The ride is different in both boats. You client should ride both. He may be able to pick for himself. Both good quality. Would he consider custom?

Would he want a Carolina built boat or a Florida built boat?

not as an owner but as a mate i have worked on both boats.. As i can tell the burn is about the saame depending on what motors are inside. i am not a mechanical guy so i am not realy farmiliar with these motors but i believe the hatt i was on was a 60 and had 12cyclinder cats... i dont know but i think..

Dont take my word for that.. We burned about 125gph at 30kt cruise.. The boat was fast and it blew through anything you could throw at it.. It was a true tank and everything held together.. They run with a squat but like other sportfishes i guess it is normal..

When i was on the 60 viking they ran hard and nice but i feel it was a lot more of a push pound on the run...

I would highly recommend the hatt also because of the cockpit design and layout, the engine room space and layout, the interioe layout, and i love the way the helms are layed out!!

I think they are just a great all around boat!!

Your boss probably isn't going to keep the boat for twenty years but.... the factory support from Hatteras is the best in the business. Mine is a 1970 and I can still get parts, manuals and technical information with a phone call. Try that with a 38 year old Viking or Bertram.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

I have spent a couple of days riding around on a 64 Viking named Marlin Darlin. It's a beautiful boat, plowed through a rough ocean with no problem. First trip was out of Marathon, FL ran down around American Shoal and fished then back to Marathon. 3'-5' seas and it didn't affect the boat at all. Next trip was from Bimini to Miami, fish and back to Bimini in the same day. 4'-6' swells so no real challenge. The boat had a huge salon and the mezzanine provided a great view of the action. I like the sliding salon doors that come in the Vikings especially the pneumatic option.

Fuel burn should not be a deciding factor when buying a boat of this size. 120-140gph is going to be the range depending on your choice of power plants.

Only experience I have on the 64 Hatteras is at the dock hanging out. What I do like is the living amenities. The walk-in pantry forward of the Galley is great for storage, similar but smaller pantry to port. You have to step up to the galley in the Hatt, Viking is one level (preferred). The viewing window in the master stateroom was neat but in a slip you'll be staring at the hull next to you. What I didn't like was the view of the cockpit from the helm. That huge overhang to accommodate shade for the mezzanine really hinders your view of the cockpit. I do like that you can get the Hatt without engine intake vents on your hullside for a cleaner look. If you like to travel to those out of the way destinations the shallower draft will be appreciated.

You can't go wrong with either boat it really comes down to which styling your owner prefers.

after owning several new jersey built boats for the past 20 years we have been running a 2004 60 hatt and i will tell you there is a difference, not that there was any thing wrong with the other boats, but this boat runs a whole bunch better when it is rough! no comparison, last year during the mid atlantic 500 it was rough the first part of the week and we just ate it up! the factory support is off the charts and the fishing and living platform is very good, only draw back is interior space, the jersey boats definetly have a lot more living space on the inside! you can pm me and i will answer any questions you may have, we use our boat all summer up north and all winter in the bahamas so i have a pretty good perspective on both canyon fishing for 3 days and cruising down south either way you will b happy with both, a friend of mine ran the marlin darlin and said the 64 ran much better then the old 61 they had for what it is worth
