Sit down Shut up And fish
2004 Grady White Marlin T 225 yamaha's
Having a steering issue with my Grady White 2004 Marlin 30.
Turned the wheel to the Starboard the other day while heading out of marina. Engines froze to the starboard. Had to be towed back onto a work rack and after 2 mechanics looking at the hydraulics Seastar system, no answers why the wheel turns to the port but engines don't. I tried the auto pilot and when i push the steer button to the port the engines do turn to the port and with a little help from turning the wheel.
Am i facing a helm problem or a bad cylinder? Taylor marine is saying the helm has to come off and shipped to Sea Star and cleaned ($300). They pumped out the fluid and put fluid back in, got out all air in system.
Any help would be appreciated. The helm is HH5742 tilt helm. I don't think I have power assist pump for the steering.
Thanks to anyone with advice.

OK after some of my own investigation Here's what Teleflex is telling me.
If I keep the engines amidships, tilt them all the way up, turn 1.5 turns to Starboard and the engines go all the way down themselves and the same thing is done to the port side and they go down by themselves then it's a helm problem. If it only goes down by themselves to one side or the other then it's a cylinder problem.
He also said before doing anything else, to start with engines amidships then turn as fast as I can to the port and this may free the Pilot Check.
Anyone care to elaborate....I would appreciate any further insite?
Thanks,
JT
