I understand there is some problems with the aftercoolers on these engines , but has anyone had any first hand experiense with these engines , can the problems be fixed and any other history or info on these would be very helpful. My boss realy likes a boat with these in them.
Thanks for any input........

According to court testimony from a Caterpllar engineer, there has been no improvement to and no plans to improve the latest version aftercooler (serial number 216-5147). Caterpillar's marine engine web site now lists 3196 and C12 engines with its out of production engines. This should be food for thought for all those pondering the idea of a 3196 or C12 purchase. Caterpillar's attorneys continue to deny that any substantial number of 3176, 3196, or C12 engines contain defects, known or unknown, related to their aftercoolers. To read a copy of the court testimony describing improvements to the various aftercooler iterations visit my website: http://www.catdefect.com-a.googlepages.com/home .
