Question 1998 Luhrs 290 with twin yanmar 300hp

diesels...

anyone here owned one?fished on one?how did it hold up?

what should i look for?

i am averaging 500-600 hrs a year on my center console.

i am looking to move up to something with a few more comfort features that also doesn't break something every trip or beat me to death.

engines are good...the hull is gonna beat you to death...this is the year that had huge void problems...in this market,i reccomend you keep looking, unless you're gonna get that rig for super cheap....

Jimmy, how did they fit those engines in there? I would like to see just how tight the Yanmars are.A friend of mine had the same Luhrs with the Volvo's in it and you talk about tight I repowered my boat which had the Volvo's to the 6LP Yanmars and the Yanmars took up more of my engine room than the Volvo's.You are right the engines have been great so far.

I like Yanmars..

they like good air, clean fuel, they like to run all out and burn no fuel to speak of doing that! get a nice 'hull / home' for them though Friends don't let friends buy luhrs...or dodges! there is a repowered little hatteras down here that has them in her that flys like the wind for sale or go get a small carolina rig.

i had not heard this yet..not good.everyone has said the early 90's had void problems,by 98 all was good..

yes this is a pretty good deal,i am in an upside down situation on my current boat, this would almost right that situation,if its not a lemon.

I fished with a guy who had one and said it was very wet and was looking to move to a 36. I was never on it just reporting what he told me he fished in Palm Beach . chriscook2 is the guys screen name, But I haven't seen him on line in quite awhile.

We have a 1993. Twin KAMD 43 Volvos. The boat has well over 3,000 hrs of sea time- 99% of our trips are 30 miles +.

It did have the void problem-corrected by Luhrs in 1999 at no cost to us. The problem was limited to the forward cabin portion of the boat-and not every boat was affected.

The "crew " that did our repair was prompt and professional.
They have also been hired to fix many other "brands" of boats-you'd be surprised.

Anyway- I believe the void issue was long gone by 1998-and I also saw other improvements Luhrs made.

Everything else has been fine. Electrical, plumbing, tanks, running gear are all original. We have been looking at other 30 ft designs for years (boat shows)........and still havent seen one better. She is well layed out, rides well, and ECONOMICAL!

Hope this helps.........
