    1972 Mako 19'..restore

Came across a well kept '72 Mako..always loved those older Mako's,and figured i've got all winter to get her done, my plan is to improve on the original boat and add some goodies.
    When finished she will have:
new switch board from Vector Imaging w/ Carling switches, all backlit w/ blue LED'S
Taco leaning post - Florida Marine Tank - interior lighting blue LED's - Underwater lighting - wash down pump - gunnel rod storage (SSi) bluewater power control - guest onboard charger - Raymarine GPS/FF - Icon VHF - Lenco trim tabs - Optima power - consoul tackle storage - GEM mako stamped rod holders - Cannon downriggers - OIB fabricators T-Top - Awlgrip paint - Powered by SUZUKI.
    First things first..
gotta pull the tank and remove fuel saturated foam, blast the hull layup West w/422 barrier and repaint w/micron66. here's the start of this project..
No room left at my company warehouse..so we rent another

Deck cleared of BAD wiring..consul..chairs..ready to unearth tank..[IMG]http://i919.photobucket.com/albums

friggin mess..leaking fuel into coffin for YEARS

Pulled it..pitted..pumped out about 5 gallons of fuel..
look at the fill hose..bottom left...swiss cheese..

more fuel..bilge was saturated...its all gotta come out..

    Nice project

I have been involved in a few makos projects. A word of advice. Plan on cutting and removing the deck, especialy if you want to put a 4 stroke on . The plywood gets deck gets water in it and the foam soaks water for ever. The only way to fix is to remove foam. Also drill a couple holes in transom low to make sure how much water the transom has? The stringers in the hull do not go to the deck. there is a void between the two that the foam fills.

    Bligh,
so i see, i cut out the coffin to remove the foam under and around..totally soaked in fuel/water..so far i have removed all the foam forward and to the sides..the foam and deck are good from the rear of the hatch to the transom..took core samples of the transom and rear deck..all good. more pic's to come.just ordered 10 gallons of 2lb urethane to repour under rear deck to gunnel's. more pic's to come. tomorrow its off to Jimmy's Marine in OIB to blast the hull...barrier coat and bottom paint, no doubt i'm coming home looking like a Smurf..
