So what is going on w/ rockfish tourneys?

Although I don't travel great distances to fish series like the ASA, I do enjoy participating when they come through.
But in the last year or 2, it seems to have changed.

I would imagine the poor attendance of this springs ASA tourney in the Chesapeake prompted them to drop next years.
Was it low entry #'s that caused them to do so elsewhere?

The FLW came through for one shot, they haven't been back.

Some friends of mine & I talked at length about putting a tournament together, but we're definitely a bit apprehensive about all the time, $ & effort that would go into putting something together, only to have a 6 entries.

So what's the deal?
If you fished a tourney last year, but didn't this year, what was your reason?
What would bring you back?
What do you look for in a tourney?

Hmmm, judging by the responses, I guess it's lack of interest...

here in va bch/tidewater there are at least 4 to 6 every weekend starting in november all the way thru christmas. i had never even heard of asa before reading about it here last year. there are some great tournaments- toys for tots this weekend and a few others, but there are just tooooo many.

p.s.- i held a couple of tournaments for seacraft boats but just got overwhelmed with trying to put stuff together with all the other tourneys going on around here, competing for marina space, entries etc.

I'm contemplating joining the ASA series for 2008 so if there are problems with the series I like to here from you ASA regulars. There seems to be alot of tourneys between Va. Beach (lower Ches bay) and Cape May(even farhter north) to keep anglers interested. There are several local tourneys here in the OCMD area that are affordable and down to earth. I set up with a new trailer and a new truck just to be able to tow to events, fish meet people and have fun. I'd fish the contender tourney Dec. 22 if it did'nt conflict with christmas activities!
