You need to get the little ABUS lock. It is all brass, inside and out. It will hold up the best but you should still shoot a little blue grease in it just in case.

I use a rectngular spot pen. Its 3/4 in square wire mesh with a perimiter top of pvc pipe. The lid is made of wood, and a zip tie holds it shut from predetors. Its about 6 feet long, 2 feet high and 3 feet wide. I held 100 spot for 5 months!

I think stealing bait is mortal sin and you should rot in hell,we made new pen this spring that worked out really well we used plastic chicken mesh 3/4 inch and zip tyed it to pvc frame, guess you could cut the mesh even if you did lock it though, theives will think of everything.. just use artificial if you can't get live.....how many holes do you have to drill in a 50 gallon barrel? That sounds like a good idea, you could thread a bike lock or 2 around the edges??

Spot can get up to 3.50 or 4$ Each in Cape May when its hot at the rips...1 spot usually = one fish/bite. Unfortunately there are a lot of scumbags around stealing spot. Guys have lost 100's of them. If you got 'em in a good hiding spot the less people that know about it the better.

During the tuna cleaning season after you loin your tuna out take all the scraps off the carcass before you dump it. Theres a lot of good meat left on their to feed your spot. Fill up a bunch of 1 gallon bags or smaller sandwich bags and freeze them. Take out as needed and give em a good meal once a week. They also will tear apart old bally hoo and makeral once they are quiet and settled.

$3.50-$4 a spot still makes me laugh but you cant beat a 1-1 ratio. If the bluefish are still around save them spot and stick with the dumb eels.

Those hi-vis noodles around the top of a spot pen are a big time target...everyone always wants to blame the otters LOL...its not the otters its the scumballs who didnt have bait that took your spot !
