Satellite Phone

What is the limit on being too cheap for a satellite phone? I appreciate your responses.

Well that depends. If you are in center console, 75 miles offshore , your radio and cell phone are not going to be much help if god forbid anything happens. Sat phone dial 911, come get you, if you have Iridium. The base plans are about 28 dollars a month, plus a 1.80 per minute. The phone is about 1500 new or about 500 used. Depends on where you are fishing and how far you go and if there is any company around. I consider moine a safety item, and it is in the ditch bag , with a hand held gps. better safe than sorry. anything can happen.
Just my 4 cents !!

Globalstar has said they were putting up new satelites since they began having problems......and that was a year or 2 ago.
or maybe longer.
I used it 1 year(2007),and it would rarely work.
Heard good about Iriduim.
