Garmin troubles......

Currently have Garmin GPS/Map 2006C & Garmin GPS/Map 198C......
Transducers are on opposite hulls - Cat boat.....
Picking up interferences & not getting a clear picture of the bottom.......
Makes finding bottom fish difficult........
Tried turning one off, tried setting to different frequencies - no improvement in imagine

Maybe using a better transducer?
Any suggestion on how to correct this problem.......Thanks...........ICM

Are yours shoot thru or transom mount?
Does the problem occur only when running or even drifting?
I was wondering if the cat hull causes some sort of turbulence resulting in interference.

Both are transom mounted on opposite hulls............
At about 20 knots both stop reading........
198C transducer bracket is broken, the transducer is presently held on with zip ties - will be fixed or replaced next time Cat is out of the water.........read only when drifting - GPS works fine.........

What about Furuno fishfinder? Better then Garmin or about the same?............thanks.........ICM

if the ducers arent set right they will stop reading at "x" mph. its hard to say when they will stop reading. there are a ton of factors. BUT at drift or slow speed they should read. do the machines tell you the depth still and a broken pic of the bottom or do you get absolutly nothing??

I used to have a Lowrance on the boat. It would stop reading completely at a certain speed, although I think it had to do with the way the transducer was mounted, out of the water when on plane But because of the way the hull was made, there was really no place to put a transom mount transducer. Got a Furuno FCV 620 with an Airmar B60 through hull transducer. Best thing I ever did for the boat. Absolutely awesome unit. If you're in the market for a new unit, take a hard look at this unit.

Sorry I couldn't help with your current situation
Good luck
Fintan

Billy, sounds like you have a location thing going on and you are getting air passing over them when you run. Tranducers should not be mounted behind any "through Hulls" fittings or right next to a stept in a boat. I also do not mount them on the center line of the hull. You may want to move the transducers till you find the sweet spot. Give me a call and I'll be glad to help you out with it if you want...
I got mine marking at 36KTS.

Deepth flashes on the 198C, but works on drifting.....
Get a broken picture when running on the 2006C & nothing on the 198C because thwe transducer is zipped tied on at the moment.......

My problem is I do get interferances & not a clear picture of the bottom - both screens show something that looks like kelp & not a very clear imagine........thanks........ICM

What at 36Kts!!!!.......
Have to replace the one on the 198C thinking I might just move it into the starboard hull & see what happens........
Will check with TwinVee to see if they know where the sweet spot is......
When I pull the boat out I will call.....thanks...............ICM
