Garmin map 540s

I have had this unit two years with not a hitch. The other day after I went offshore I lost my positioning. I could not navigate to any waypoints. When I returned to shore the unit came back on and was normal. I had power the entire time just could not navigate. This unit has an internal antenna so their was no blockage in any way. I have never seen this before and I am confused. By the way upon returning I did an update on the software and brought it up to 5.0. I was at 4.0. Would this have anything to do with it. I plan on calling tech support at garmin Mon. Thanks for your time. Doug

question?

Did you check to see if the unit was searching for WAAS signal or other sat signal?

That has happened to me.

I have to say searching for sat signal. It was acquiring the signal till we got offshore. Then lost the signal. As I have said upon returning it acquired the signal again. I have to ask I am not familiar with the waas signal. What would that be. Thanks for your answer, Doug
