Garmin 4210 v 4212

Other than size, what are the differences between these two units????

Nothin but size but size does matter! Get the bigger one if you can afford the price and space.

I believe the 4210 comes with some additional accs. that the 4212 doesn't have. Used to anyway.

One word of warning... the 4xxx/5xxx series only gives you 10 digits for waypoint naming. The older 3xxx series had a comment field that showed up and you could enter additional remarks or name in that. Total of 31 digits available for naming a waypoint with the 3xxx series. The 4xxx/5xxx series only gives you 10 digits and no comments field. So they went from 31 digits to 10 digits. That's a huge step backwards IMHO. My 8 year old Furuno gives me better flexibility in waypoint naming. If you have alot of waypoints to name, or ones that are very similiar, you might want to consider that before buying the newer series. I was leaning towards one of the 4xxx series before I found this glitch.

I was researching for a friend and I tell you the biggest drawback I see is that Garmin won't take navonics fish n chip. That is some awesome software for bottom fishing.

Garmin has bathymetric charts too, it is part of the Vision card. Garmin calls it a Fishing Chart.

good point!!! another issue i have realized when upgrading from a 3xxx garmin to the 4212 is that the number of waypoints the unit can store has been drastically reduced. not sure why they did this--waypoints take very little room to store but it is limited to about 1500 total. good units overall, i think, but they force you to be very handy with naming and archiving your waypoints with outside storage

Are you saying waypoint capacity/number of waypoints you can store has been reduced? I know they went from
digits to digits for waypoint naming and comments. Which to me is unbelieveable and a huge step backwards. But I didn't realize they had also reduced the number of waypoints you can store.
