WOW,
There some great stuff here. Thanks for putting that up. What's cool was watching the screens right in front of my home..yup that was accurate.

BTW - I went with the XM waether this year and have really come to like and depend on it. We were able to avoid a couple of real thunder boomers while way out.

Wow! That is just great, and a hundred times more valuable that reading a few brochures!

Anybody have any preference on which type of satellite weather provider is better?

Thumbs up

This system truly is impressive. Leave it to Furuno to do it right. Some additional info from speaking directly with a Furuno tech:

- All units come preloaded with Raster and Vector charts for the entire country. You can toggle back and forth between the two based on your location or preference. The aerials "fuse" with both.

- Aerials will come preloaded for southern Florida and you will need to download your area to a SD card (camera card) from online and then load to your unit once installed. The units have 2 slots. Aerials for the entire county would take too much memory. YOU WILL be able to download and update aerials from their website. You can also add and delete as you wish, with no charge.

- I believe the units are designed with 6-7? sectors of memory, the raster and vector charts take up some of these, each sector is capable of holding X amount of information (ie aerials or bathy charts for example) segmented by area, say the Carolinas (think of it as each sector will be like the current memory cards you have to buy for other manufactureres). You can expand the memory useable to you by removing certain chart areas, say California, that are preloaded on the unit but you may never use. If you want the areas back you just go online and download them from Furuno.

- Furuno is also supposed to have an online "account" for each user to simply the process of updating and downloading information.

- The Black Box units will be slightly faster than the 12" or 8" as the BB uses a larger processor. Apparently the difference will really only be noticed in the outskirts of the redraw in the fully fused mode (aerial and chart), but they are working on this. The demos at the show are running off a few BB beta versions.

-I think one of the coolest features (there are a lot) is the ability to move around and view the areas around the vessel from from any perspective vertical or horizontal.

- I have heard that with the Ultra HD radar domes will have target definition as good as or better than older open arrays and new HD open arrays will be a step above that. Wouldl love to see a performance test.

Thanks for the vid flat! I've always been a northstar person for my gps/plotter because on seamless chart scrolling & Furuno for my sounder... they have always seemed like the best performing imo, but I think from now I'll only be flying the Furuno flag.
