It was put here as buyer advice. It was also put here for electronic installers advice. Also I would have to bet that this will help more than just one person in thier own private installs the whole nine yards.
It is a benefit to offer advice that may be useful to those in the buying market, radar istallation or all else related to the marine industry.

Just do not find the information of the buyer's possible court venture necessay as public broadcast. Truly not intended to be a insult just a observation that some clients nameless or not would much prefer not being a case scenario on a internet site.

Hubris – I have to disagree with you on this point! I have never been to court in the boat business, because I just fix the problem, even if it is Not my fault, it is just good business! And I don’t want to get branded as a Problem Yacht Broker, end of story in the boat business! But in the used car business , I have been in court , several times , because of Ridicules Claim against vehicle’s that one of my car lots sold ( Always a piece a shit trade-in ) and Sold AS –IS ( No Warr. ) ! In the 10 or so cases that I went in front of a Judge, I ONLY won one case; The Consumer is always favored by the Judge!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know longer sell any AS-IS Vehicles to the public they go to the auction, end of story! So, the moral of this story – the Consumer has a higher ratio of Winning in court!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mary... thanks from the sidelines for trying to do whats right!

when you state the facts and people choose to do whats wrong all you can do is what you did. It is great to see people that try to get something done and you will get two times the biz. in the long run for your time.. you will see it works out in the end! and fighting for something thats right takes character and people do notice...do not ever settle for whats wrong without a fight!

joe, the point i was making is simple........courts dont care about the cost to defend or bring a lawsuit. you can spend ten thousand dollars to collect $250. lost wages....HA! time off of work.......HA! attorneys fees...........HA! the system is lubricated on the number of lawsuits, costs really dont matter.

The radar was told to be an issue before we even stepped foot on the boat for the 1st time for seatrial before any deposits were even placed or a contract was written.

I hate when lawyers get involved it just makes everyone spend more money than needed. The consumer is right in this situation.

I know when you buy a used boat it is "As is" and is a "Used Boat" - If this came up 6 months later after purchase okay maybe, but it was a problem from the get go.
Hi am new here but i can relate am going thru sumthing similar could you keep us updated on what happens, thanks

Wish I had seen this post about 10 months ago. I had the exact same gasket issue with my Raymarine radar this year. Things got intermittent, and troubleshooting took me in other directions. Finally I opened her up and...water. Dried it out and loaded on some wd40 and she works again (Not suggesting that will fix yours). In my case, the system was removed for work on a hard top then re-installed.

Good luck w this Mary. I hear some items on both sides of this one. Hopefully they got a good deal on the boat overall - even with this. File it under "stuff happens", wish everyone the best, and don't loose sleep over something you can't control and shouldn't be responsible for.

Mary,
The fact is that Raymarine did a survey and determined that something like 90+ % of problems with electronics are directly related to the install. It is a good, though expensive lesson and a shame that the guy had to learn it.
