volvo dou prop
today i had a close call,we left cape may at 6am heading through the canal on the way to tussy's where the bass bit yesterday. everything seem fine on the way, stoped the boat on some marks and bilge pumps started running followed by the bilge alarm. i opened the hatches to find water gushing in through the transom plate.4of the 6 bolts that hold the transom assembly on snapped off.a quick call on 16 and coasties were on the way with a pump.i started the run toward the canal and met the coasties half way.long story short ran a 3inch pump in the bilge all the way back to the dock where a fork lift was waiting. my question is what is involved in replacing the bolts.i have access to the inside of the plate.also the boat is a jackshafted i/o.any info is great appreciated.

Holy Chit- I've never heard of that happening before, I have a duo prop setup that is old and the bolts look fine. I dont think they would be hard to replace,I would want to know why they broke, corrosion, electrolisis, bad metal.Glad you made home, could have been a bad situation.

the volvo's are famous for a ground problem on the transom plate, the trim/tilt cylinders will erode away, the bolts securing the transom plate to the boat will corode-there's quite a few things involved...last one i did was a 25 carolina classic-old school "aq" series dou prop set up...the drive and the transom assembly was galvanically corroded-problem with grounding, the sealing area where the drive shft bellow seats, this was compromised, water entered the drive shaft bellow, causing damage to the u-joints,the u-joint blew apart, and it pretty much took out everything else...a nasty job...
