Trouble with my etec

I'm brand new to this forum, hello everyone ! I purchased a new 50 HP etec in june and when I first tried to run it, the plugs were fowled. The dealer was able to help me out over the phone and everything was fine all summer. Just last week I was hunting in a very remote area and the etec started running very poorly, plugs fowled again. Cleaning the plugs did not help, we limped back to camp at trolling speed in big waves for 12 miles. After we made it back we noticed the oil usage was very high and wondered if the computer was trying to winterize. Has anybody had similar trouble ?

Welcome to the boards, Frank. We haven't had that issue or anything similar. We did have issues with the water pumps, but after they were replaced, the engines have run fine.

What oil are you using? And is the motor calibrated to use that oil? We had the choice to set up the motors for standard or synthetic oil, and we elected to use the XD100. The oil consumption on our 250's is extremely low - maybe 1/10th of what we burned with the previous Yamaha's.
