the 225's were a good motor, however they definatly like the oil , and they dont mind drinking the gas. im guessing the 29' coastal hull weighs about 7500-8000? should put you at a 30 =34 knt cruise burnning about 1.2 -1.3 miles to the gallon.
i ran these motors on a 34 proline that weighed 7800 lbs and ran around these numbers. i never ran the motors above 4700 rpms and i crused between 30 and 32 knts |

if all is right with the engines, the fuel consumption works like this 10% of total hp... 450total hp-10% 45,@full throttle, the engines will burn approx 45gph,figure @ cruise speed, that would be half, figure 22-24gph for cruise... alot will effect this number, like how's the boat propped, can the engines reach max rpm ? if the engines are "over wheeled",the consumption will be much higher... these old school engines are pretty reliable, not much there to fail, basic fuel system, basic ignition system... the boat, that's a different story, seen alot of problems with the wellcrafts, hull to deck joints breaking, leaking ,failing, fuel tanks in late model boat failing, poor wiring,etc...the boat will not give the greatest ride either... |
