Verado
As a manufacturer of sportfishing boats I am standing by to see how mercury brings this problem to a resolution. It is a shame this had to go on so long and come here to be resolved. When picking products to build my boats I look for the best quality and equally important (and sometimes more) is the service and prompt communication when their is a problem and what course of action they will take.
Customers want prompt communication, and in most cases will be ok even if it will take longer than thay expect as long as there is good communication and the supplier does what they aggred to do. Wayne

Admin, it sounds to me like when Mr. Miller visited the site and read this post he overlooked that there are almost 27,000 members here. Whenh the subject line changes to each individual members screen name it will catch everyone's eye. That is how I got here to this post. It really sucks and I hope that for their sake they respond with a reasonable offer. Shane Five4Fighting

Sucks the big one for sure......been round and round with motor problems....we have pulled the 454 mercruiser out of the black fin 6 times in the past 3 years.....being mounted under the center console and adding a hard top only complicated the extraction, had an exhaust manifold go and filled the thing with salt water....out she comes, had a few bent valves....out she comes, mysterious rpm loss......out she comes, this warranted a change of mechanics to work on the f-ing thing. Great news the motors running good, wait a second where is all that oil coming from?...Out she comes again..a rear main seal you say, well ok fix it.....running great....wait a second...theres the oil again....out she comes, this time its the oil pan...you know the cast aluminum one they dont make any more....shocking, but we got a re-manned pan and put the motor back in for what i hope is the final time last weekend.....if she dont run i am breaking out the hole-saw and taking the boat for one more ride
![]() If nothing else, we have become quite good at yanking the motor out with a back hoe with the bucket removed...takes a few chock and re-choke the cain manuevers but practice make perfect...or so you would think Last edited by bigfish4me; 10-07-2008 at 01:58 PM. |

Coming up on 4,000 views. I'd imagine Mercury will lose far more than the cost to replace John's engines every week this thread continues.
I've got an older Mercury that is the best engine I've ever owned. I'm watching this thread to see how Mercury responds and that will dictate if I replace it with another Mercury or go Yamaha. |

Good point. 4,000 views, so far. So if, say, one out of a hundred boating enthusiasts here decided NOT to buy a Merc as a result of their failure to honor their warranty ( the engines are still under warranty) that would be 40 outboard sales they have lost so far. That math doesn't make sense from Mercury's standpoint. What's their profit on 40 outboards, plus losing the market share. I would think they would consider taking care of John's warranty issues once and for all, and get him to delete this entire thread as part of the deal. Or buy some advertising. hey, John, could you work something out to give Mercury Outboards 9K worth of free advertising on the forum?

4100 views....so this is probably costing Mercury at least a Verado sale an hour...
What happens if one of their fleet customers sees it and starts thinking back to the hassles he's had. And lets face it, ALL manufacturers run into problems from time to time. The great ones fix them.

John I would not purchase them just from following your trials and tribulations for at least a year. I remember you running out of NJ when you got the boat back home and if I remember right you left the dock with 3 running and returned on one! I just had to put a fuel pump on my 1986 200 XP e-rude that was completely rebuilt 5 seasons ago. Dam, $460.00 (in additional non maintence costs in 5 sesons!) got a 1993 225 Ocean Pro from the generosity of another member here going to the same rebuilder this winter!(spare)It sucks that merc won't go the full route and back up their product. IMO, a quater mile offshore or 100 mi once your out there catch or no catch dependabilty(getting back) is the name of the game!
