Man John, I'm sorry to hear of all of your troubles. Hopefully they will step up and do the right thing. I've been problem free with my Suzukis until this year. The paint has started to fail on one of the cowlings. A couple of phones calls along with some digital photos, a new cowling is on the way. Now THAT is customer service.

Well, Mr. Kubera has got one email already. From me.

Is the media director the right guy? Don't we need a VP or something? Customer Support Manager for North America?

To bring groceries and plywood to brother on South Caicos, To load up on conch and lobster to sell to the restaurants on Provo. To catch snapper and yellowtails to feed their families.

They don't have the money to have their boats re-tweaked every weekend by a Phd. factory mechanic at eleventy thousand bucks an hour in a clean environment using inert gases to polish the injectors... They need the boat to run.

They don't need a motor that has to be hooked to a garden hose and flushed out every time a drop of seawater lands on the block, they need the boat to run.

They don't need to find out that the new unobtainium valve goosing rods on backorder til next season will increase their mileage by one one thousandth of an inch per gallon.....they don't give a damn about mileage, they just need the boat to run.

They don't need a motor that needs a technician with a computer to turn it back on after it overheats..they just need it to run. Every time.

And there is no Sea Tow here. Nor Navy. Nor Coast Guard. You can talk to yourself for a long time on Channel 16. But most of the guys running boats here don't even have a VHF radio. They know that if they are out of cell phone range they are screwed anyhow.

So the boat stopping for some outboard related reason is in really bad taste.

And they almost without exception use Yamahas.
Yamaha should come to S. Caicos and do a commercial. It'll be the best advertising from hard core fishermen they could ever have.

I'm running 250 4 stroke Suzukis on the big boat here now. These motors suck in my opinion. They are not built for everyday use. The motor doesn't put out anywhere near the power it should and the design of the motor allows way to much sea spray inside the cowling. This is the third set that the company has bought, and they have problems right out of the box. I keep telling them to get Yamahas, but what do I know? I'm just the fishing guide and captain.

Not sure whether this post is directed at me, but the answer is no.

IMO only diesel engines are built strong enough to withstand sustained boost under load, whether from a turbo or a compressor. If you want the power out of an outboard, you need to go normally aspirated and increase the displacement.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. It has to be truly frustrating.

Wink Since you asked

John, This might be a stupid ?

Have you been frequenting http://www.veradoclub.com/smf/ ? Just wondering because over on THT you'd have to answer to Glen

I've had one 2001 90hp Merc 4 stroke(Yamaha powerhead no less) that was problematic from day one. It's cost me over 1K in carb work alone, from ethanol related issues. Tooo much downtime!

Never again! And I can get Mercs .........cheap.
