Absurd they are putting you through this John. It would have cost them so much less if they had handled this the right way from the start.

Time to unleash the power of the internet...

Bummer....

I was very impressed with the boat I ran with trip V250's... Super sweet outboard.... Very disappointed to read this. Doesn't matter to me, I have been using the same Yamaha dealers since 1986, I'm not changing what works.

Just sad, with the money the brunswick corp has that they can't see the need to make you of all people happy.

Poor customer service x 10

Hey John,

If i was to buy outboards I would go with the suzuki 4 strokes. They are reliable, quiet, efficiant and the service is great.I am kinda leary of forced induction on a marine gas application, especially outboards. The suzukis have an incredable hole as well.

That just plain blows!!! I wouldn't have anything but yamahas on the back of the contender! 600 hours last season and they start at the touch of the key, run hard for 60-90 miles at the top end, then troll all day, turn around and 60-90 miles in at top end and not one problem.

Thumbs up

Yes I would, Verado's are great engines, do they have problems? Just ask John, sure they do, but show me a manufacture that has not had some sort of issue. I have been certified on Mercury products for the past 20 years, so maybe thats why I am so comfortable with Mercury products :. In the past 3 years or so we have sold and serviced hundreds of Verado's, we have serviced just about every Verado in our area and off the top of my head I can think of 1 powerhead, 2 power steering pumps, 3-4 sensor problems, 4 lower units and the float switch issue with the FSM"s. That is not that bad at all, I do understand its no fun getting in at midnight from 67 off @ 10 knots, but things happen, I do agree John has had above average issues with his engines, but I believe Merc will do the right thing, they have always worked with us to resolve any issues we have had in the past. They have worked with us several times and took care of the customer, even when it was a rigging\ boat manufacture issue. Good Luck John

So, Frank. Tell us. From your perspective, what has John done wrong? These are 05 motors, still under his extended warranty as I understand it, and he's got three unreliable Verados. Whassup with that?

How would you have gotten Merc to fix or replace them if it was your boat and the Verados were keeping you off the water?

Hudson will NEVER buy Verados again!

Wow! I haven't logged on in some time and I read this about Verados. John, I am not sure if this is directed at me or not, but my experience with them has certainly been a love hate relationship. Much more hate than love though. Actually, I have not been able to fish most of this season because of these motors and it has truely been depressing. So much I have actually almost given up. So much time, money and effort I put into offshore fishing and this year....only 3 trips! Well 2.5 because the last trip I finally blew the center engine on the way out, so we fished inshore for Bluefin. And yes the other two trips were both 1 engine down during the trip back to the dock. I have Triple 2005 Verados on my 36' Yellowfin and the upside is they run like hell, are quite as a mouse, and even are economical. The downside is that they have spent more time in the shop than on water. The 1st year I had them...nothing but problems. 15 trips on 2 engines..yes that's right 15. In '06 we had things figured out. Mercury had a recall on the float switches on the outer 2 engines(of course this is after I had spent $10k trying to figure out what was wrong with them). Last year they were perfect. Not one issue. Don't even know how may trips we made, but it was a lot. This year has been a disaster though. My guy made the fatefull mistake of trying to start the engines with the tanks dry...totally not his fault, but the next 2 months I was out of commision. Burned out the fuel pumps I guess. Had to replace the floats as well. Got it all squared away and they seem to be back on track, but as I said the last trip the center engine started knocking like there was a woodpecker under the cowling. So we will see what happens with this one as I have never had an issue with the center engine before.
JP from Robinson Marine up in Mass in coming down to Niantic to pick it up and sort things out for good. He's Mr. Verado so I am in good hands. If I kept my boat at the marina he worked at, I would probably have Verados forever. The problem is, I have taken the boat to other 'certified' Verado guys and they don't know shit. Everyone seems to have a different opinion about what causes these issues, and I don't even want to tell you how many times the boat has been 'fixed' only to have the same problem the next day. It's pathetic. Hopefully, JP will get me back on the water soon as the fishing is heating up a bit.
