    Winding Checks with Epoxy ramp???

I've seen epoxy ramps done both ways - With Winding checks and without.

I'm looking for opinions and if possible technical reasons one way or another.

    Thanks in advance...

Thanks. I really like the epoxy ramp - that's the cool thing about custom. I was just wondering if there was a good reason to use a winding check or not... I personally like the sleek epoxy look...

Epoxy ramp ups have the tendency to crack after time and flexing of the rod. A rubber winding check while not giving as nice a finish serves a purpose. You are connecting a stiff (grip/handle)area to a more flexable area (blank) no matter the size of the rod. The rubber winding checks are more foregiving (epoxy build up flexes too, just less). They do still crack sometimes, just not as common as the epoxy build up.

Gotta love custom...I really like the look of the build ups. They just look more custom to me. If anyone has a good picture, I'd love to see what a good winding check build up looks like...I've done it a couple times but have been under-enthused about it.
