    White/White Chatham Special

OK. THis one was worth every cuss word that I shed during this build!

You think you have a clean shop? Ok, then get yourself the components and build a white on white. I dare you! You will find that your shop has so many flaws and is dirty as sin! At times, I actually had to just stop, back away from the bench and look at my surroundings and fix the flaws that were holding me back. There is nothing worse than getting a rod done, applying finish and then walking away; only to return and see multiple pieces of dust in a finish!

White does not show dirt? My butt it doesn't... It shows every little sec of it!

So, it involved sitting with the rods for HOURS to act as a study hall monitor to make sure that Murphy kept his sorry ass away from my shop. After all, when you leave the shop, that is when the leprechauns come out of the cabinets!!! LOL

This build involved multiple trips to the hardware store to get the ventilation system up to snugg. Rerouting air circulation, clean vent filters, you name it.......

    But it was worth it!!!

    Very nice.

Funny on the last rod I built I had 2 things happen.

    1. Right after I applied the first coat of finish and hit it with the burner the power went out so I sat there in the dark for 2 hours hand spinning the rod, waiting for the power to come back on.

    2. On the next coat of finish, I check the rod in the moring and what's dried in the finish a Fly.

Ha! Never fails!! Murphy will rear his head once the finish is applied!! Well, with the fly, I guess you made a fly rod!! I knew a guy that died a couple weeks ago that actually camped out on piles of dog crap and collected flies and put them in his finish to make a fly rod!!

HAHAHA! I laughing cuz I know EXACTLY what your saying.

What did you use for components? Guides are pretty obvious. And in hind sight, I should have used the same. The heavy windons barely clear the Aftco BFs. What's the OAL?

    Nice work, bro!

Thats a Calstar IGFA80 painted white that, when finished is 7'10" and 6 guides and Aftco UB6 bent.

Im likin it more and more and now am thinking about building one that is white with emerald green inlays with gold rollers. I have the stuff here, so I might just do it. I also got some sweet green grips the other day, so I am thinking it would look pretty sweet!
I need to have some show rods for the International Rodbuilding Exposition in High Point the last weekend in February, so it will probably happen!!

Very well done, it looks very eligant looking.

I've seen a few other builders do white rods and they also noted how much of a pita it was.

Kevin I know what you mean white is by far the worse I've every worked with but comes out nice when finished. I love the look of the white over the blue abalone, the green should look great too. Here is one that I did in white about 4-5 years ago
