    What type of rod?

I need to get a good solid rod for reef fishing. i would like it to be able to take up to 200-300lb tuna as well as grouper off the drop off right past the reef. I am really leaning towards bait casting being able to handle bigger fish in general and also because i feel if i hooked a big fish the drag on a spinning reel or level-wind would melt down. What rod and reel combo would you suggest for 100-250$ (and possibly a link as to where i can order it from).

    Thanks boys!

    Cheers, BigCatch

I think you're going to be hardpressed to find a reel that you'll be happy with that keeps you in your price range.

Plenty of nice rods in the $150 +/- range, but I'd consider an Avet jx as a minimum for the reel, and those run right at $250 for the single speeds.

You might be able to find the right rod for that price but not a combo for the job you describe. Check some pawn shops.
