    What salt to brine with ?...

    Pro-Cure says brine with non iodized salt...
    Anyone know why? Most people I know use the regular salt.

    Iodine can impart a blackish tint to the bait... I use plain ol cheap cheap salt... and never any fresh water touches bait...

    Fresh water makes them get a goldish tint. I think the most important thing in the brine is plenty of ice. The brine has to be so cold that you cant stand to stick your hand in it.

    Thanks for the replys...I have never tried baking soda...
    Any idea how much baking soda to mix with 7 lbs of salt ?

    2 lbs of baking soda with 10 lbs of salt is what works great for me.

    I usually mix 2 parts Kosher salt to 1 part Baking Soda - Haven't had any trouble. I use that mix when I brine fresh spanish macks for bait and for rigged hoos in my tray.

    Bionic makes a good brine. Will get costly if you do it a lot, in that case go with soda/salt
