upgrading reels

I want to make a Penn senator or Shimano TLD out of almost all upgrade parts what do you guys think about it?


I was thinking I would get upgrade sideplates
steel gearing
corbonx washers
upgrade power handle
upgrade barrings and a upgrade frame. What would you guys think?

seems like a waste of time ,money and energy.Why not just spend the money on a better reel

I agree,.....I would buy a new reel ....much less expensive....
but......if you are interested in taking reels apart,to see how things work,and learn,go for it.....

I've gotten rid of all but one of my senators, and it'll be gone one of these days.

I do have plenty of tld reels, as they are great reels for the $. The only worthwhile mods IMHO are the drag washers and crank handles.

Asside from that, it's just not worth the $ and definately not worth the effort to do a full on upgrade when you can get a better reel over the counter.

Newell 4:1 gears
Ceramic Bearings
Pro Gear Handle
Carbontex Drags from Smooth Drag

Why you may ask........cause it's possible.
