    TLD 15 drag help

During the winter months I finally did an upgrade on my tld 15's, thanks again to Alan Tani for his tutorials! I put in penn carbon fiber drag washers, reel-x'd the bearings and put on aftermarket longer cranks. I didn't upgrade to the tld 20-II drag washers, because I wasn't after monster drag.

After setting the drags on my avet SX's, I put the tld 15's on the scale. I was a bit dismayed. I can set them for plenty of max drag, but the strike drag is around 4-5#'s. If I crank the pre-set down to increase the strike drag, the full drag locks up the reel. So, do I need to go to the tld 20 II bellville washers to get increase with strike drag? These reels will mainly be used by my kids, so I don't need monster drag, but want a bit more drag at strike.

BTW, they are much, much smoother after the upgrade!

my first thought would normally be that you have spectra slipping on the spool. check the line anyway. next would be the cam. there should be a perfectly square hole in the center of it. if it's rounded, get a replacement. then check the pressure plate to make sure it is true. i have some washers you can use to shim it up if needed. and finally, the bellevilles. got a bunch, let me know if you need any. here is the rebuild post with additional commentary that might help. please let me know how it works out. alan
