Has anyone used the Tica 80WTS? Seems like a lot of reel for the money. Any comments?

At one point I carried the 30s. Great little reel, very popular in Texas for some reason. The reels hold up well, the only thing I found that for the price, Avet was a better buy. I would have no problem owning any of the Ticas. I assume that their quality is in the 80 as well.
We have 5 50WTS and they seem real smooth. I will tell you though that clickers arn't really loud so if you have outboards you'll here em but not like say shimano or penn.
Has anyone defeated a large fish on any of the 50-80 series? I have the oppertunity to get some at a great deal but know nothing about these. ie, drag in pounds, capibility to hold up during long fights Life Swords? Any comments would reeeeely help.![]()
i have never used one..but the gears are 2.9 / 1.3, 1040yds of 80#..with 6BB ..didnt see a weight of reel but the 50 is 77oz ....doesnt sound bad..i just dont think i could spend 500 on a tica..but thats just me

I'm with you on that but I can get them for 50W 299 and 80W 399 so thats not a bad deal. Before I do I need to know how they hold up.
i am sure some guys love them, some hate them. same as any other reels. they just might not be a popular reel...just make sure you take care of them, and you should be happy with them..
Not that it necessarily translates, but I paid $300 for one of their tica spinning reels a few years ago, and within the second season it had siezed to the point that the bail would not turn. I do all of the reccomended maintenance (and then some), and take care of all of my things well, so it wasn't that. I just think that they may have a way to go before I would depend on them. Perhaps they have fixed whatever problems it was that they had, and if someone can vouch for them then it seems that they may have. I just know that when I'm on a nice fish, the last thing I want to be doing is thinking about my reel. Good luck, and let us know what you decide.
Got my Tica 668 today and it about equal to 5/0 if one existed. I threw it on the scale and was able to drop 24 lbs of drag and was not even hammered down. It looks sturdy and well made, I guess only time will tell.
I have some of their smaller reels. Pisces and Gemini. I seized the pisces after about 3 years. it has some nylon gears in it. It was easily repaired and has been working well since.
