    Teaser Reels Single or Double?

I have a 32 BF FB. I am looking to add teaser reels. My question is about the rigging. How do you rig them through your outriggers. Do you set a non-moving ring in place and run them through that? How far out do you generally run them? I have 22' outriggers and am running two lines as is. I am curious as to where to run them so as not to interfere. Also, is it better to run a double teaser as opposed to two singles? I guess when you need to reel them in you need to reel them both in. But then of course I guess you are forced to always run two teasers when you might only want to run one. Does anybody run a teaser off their shotgun?

I can use any advice I can get. Thanks.

This seems the most popular way: Tie a glass eye or pully up the pole about 2/3 of the way to the short rigger. Run a halyard line as you would a rigger line but crimp a steel 2" ring. (you will now have 3 lines-- long short and teaser). Run teaser line through the steel ring from underneath and you can bring in the teaser without using a boat hook.
On positioning the glass ring to your rigger pole, pay attention to the speader wires and angle of the long and short lines. I need to redo mine and bring the glass ring in closer becuse of the significant bind on the long rigger line.
I don't know what you are refering to about a double teaser. If you run anything off the center, might aqs well have a hook in it.

Thanks for the quick answer. I meant double teaser reel. Left out reel. Sorry about that.

On your spread how far out do you usually run your teaser? What's it's relationship to the baits? Behind, in front of, or one each?

About 15' from back of boat. Put your flat lines just behind ( 8' or so) the teaser or have a pitch bait ready if billfishing

Without a doubt run two single reels. There may be a tremendous amount of drag reeling two heavy teasers at once, depending on the teaser. I like the Reel Colors Teaser.

There is also a small boat teaser bracket which holds a Penn 114. The Penn 49L reel that everyone uses is discontinued.

I would suggest installing a third set of adjustible outrigger lines with a 1" stainless ring through which your 400# mono teaser line runs inside. This will allow you to adjust the position of your teaser in relation to your inside rigger bait. On the rigging, you can also use small turning blocks instead of glass rings which drastically reduces the friction. I have found that this setup is optimal. Placement of your teaser rigging loop is just inside your inside rigging loop.

Teaser placement is dependent upon your boat. Look for clean water and determine which wave placement works best for your boat. Your boat will be different than others.

    Here is a cool

Well, that makes good sense. I hadn't thought about the drag factor. I'm in a situation where I am likely going to have to jump off the bridge and become the mate. I suppose electric would be a good way to go but gawd that's a lot of money.

I guess us poor guys will have to hang them off the back of the transom!

    Thanks for all the info!

Call me if you want a quote on a Penn 114 teaser bracket. Singles and doubles are available in Powder Coat White. Nice stuff.

The expert for that article was from SFC's own, Franky Pettolina!

    Cool.
