My new sword setups consist of a Manasquan Inlet Rod Shop rod, (Calstar Baja Boomer Blank with Aftco Wind On guides, 6’ LOA), a Shimano Tiagra 50 WLRSA, spooled with 600 yards of Jerry Brown hollow core, with a top shot of 100 pound Momoi done by BHP Tackle. For a leader I use anywhere from 250 to 400 pound Momoi, most are rigged with 250, a 9/0 or 10/0 Owner Jobu and a 330 Spro wind on swivel.

The rig I like consists of hook, crimp, about 2 1/5 to 3 inches of chafe gear, a crimp and then a 3 inch float.

As for rigging I like to leave the tag end uncrimped with a point cut in the line, thread that through the top of the squid, pull it all of the way through and run the hook through the head.

a nice stiff rod in the 6-6.5 foot range, a penn international 80w or 50w, spooled with momoi mono. crimp to a spro swivel. 8 feet of 250 pound leader crimped to a 10/0 hook and a big whole squid with a glowstick. set at 150-250 feet of water. and drop a hydroglow light in the water.

    Tackle for swordfish

I use the Luma Vibe sword lights when fishing deep at night. They alternate light/sound, replaced the lightsticks in the commercial fleets. Attach them to my leaders about 3' above the hooks. I also use a 12' floating harpoon to land them during the day when they are basking on the surface. I got all my sword gear at Blue Ocean Tackle ( www.blueoceantackle.com ). They have a lot of great stuff.
