According to the manufacturers:
Blue Mirror (Gray Base):
Made for the open water. Encapsulated mirrors deliver maximum contrast and color in full sun while eliminating glare.
Green Mirror (Amber Base and Copper base):
Encapsulated mirrors offer enhanced visual acuity for fishing inshore, flats, rivers and streams.
From the Costa Del Mar site
it also depends on the kind of day. If its sunny the best are the Blue Mirror coated. But if its over cast the amber lenses are better. they seem to cut down the the gray light better then the blue ones. i wear amber all the time.
I wear the green lense Ocean waves I have the Bandana's and the serria's The biggest thing for sight is blocking the glare from getting to the back side of the lense. Both of these models do that very well. I chose these over the 400 Costa's which i wore for along time. The reason was 2fold. I suffered some eye strain from the edge distortion. I also had scratch issues on every pair. The 580 glass lense cures this but I had already switched and will not go back without a sponsorship. Yes I did work on the water for a living. I also used them to ski with again as a professional.(every day 7 a week for the seasons involved)
Lense color. If you fish Blue water them Blue lense. Green or mixed Green lense. Low/overcast light grey lense. Need to see a specific color of fish ie reds amber.
I like the green for everything and do not give up enough to want the blue in the stream.
OAKLEY
They make a pair that you can switch polorized lenses, for all light and water conditions.
I just got the Kaenons for this season, compared them to the costa 580 and In my opinion they are much clearer and much better vision on the water.
They don't even make mirrored lenses, but are considered by some the best glasses on the water, (just from my research of reviews from google search)
Take that for what its worth, but I can tell you I am amazed at how much I am now seeing with the Kaenons that I never saw before.
Several times 2 weeks ago offshore I was seeing fish under the surface and on the teaser and the other 3 guyson the boat were like "what fish?"
I have blue lenses, but heard from a Costa rep that the brown lens is the best for offshore and the blue are good but more likely bought for their appearance. I still like my blues.
I have green lensed Costa's... I've always preferred more of a rose lens than gray and I just plain like green.
At first glance, I think they (gr/bl) both look blue anyway - hence - everyone wears blue.
Wear whats comfortable.
I've use the grey Kaenons for extra sunny days because they are super dark and I have a couple pairs of amber REVOs for cloudy days. I like both tints depending on conditions
(both are polarized of course)
