Batson FSU56XH is my go to blank. Great action, outstanding durability and great quality blank.

You can also use Calstar (GFW755H or XH) or Seeker (CTSF55XXH) but they come with a high pricetag. Calstar and Seeker are both West Coast design and they have a very fast taper which in my opinion is too fast.

Last I looked Batson is out of Sequim, WA which is west coast where are there blanks made? XH would indicate to me a fast taper. I have rods built on both Calstar and Seeker blanks. Those fast tapers were designed for Live bait Tuna in Mexican waters fishing from long range boats at anchor with a stand up harness. A much different technique than a fighting chair and backing down. I am now fishing the west coast rods here in VA with good results, but then the fast taper live bait rod is what I know and like.

Clyde, they are a moderate taper. Not as fast as the Calstars or Seekers. These blanks are used as standups, not chair or backing down. Yes, they are designed and engineered in Sequim, but manufactured overseas.

I've built on both calstar boomer and super seekers. I like both but really dig the super seekers (SSCTS55XXH). Both are fast blanks so be very careful cutting the tips back. I'm building a new pair of rods on Seeker IGFA80H (eglass) blanks now. Too early to tell how bad I'll F them up

Here's a vid of one of the Seekers fresh off the dryer with a 70VSW and a 120#er. The beginning might give you an idea of what to expect

I have a video with a Calstar 655XH, Seeker TSF55XXH (e glass, not the composite) and a 80-130# AM Tackle ATX Composite. One of the other video's shows a Calstar 655XXH vs blue shark.

I also have a Batson 56H Composite, but I don't have video of that one yet. I have also built on the Calstar Boomer Jr, but again, no video.

H, XH, XXH is the power of the rod, not the taper! There are slow, moderate and fast tapers with each of those power levels.

Why an 80?? I can get 600 yds of 130# JB hollow and a 150 yd topshot of 130# Momoi Diamond on my Avet 50W with well over 30# of drag available. The 30W Avet holds 600yds of 100# JB Hollow and 100yds of 80# Momoi diamond. An 80 sucks for standup being much bigger and heavier than really needed.

I really like the Batson composite 56H and the Seeker TSF55XXH out of the blanks I have used so far! Both will handle over 25# of drag easily.
