Anyone have a hints to stripping the guides off a rod. I want to resuse the guides and blank...just rewrap all the guides. I have cut them off in the past but seems like there is an easier way.
Thanks,
Mitch

The way I do it is just take a razorblade and cut along the top of the guide foot through the old wraps. Doing this may make a scratch on the guide foot but it will be wrapped over anyway so its out of sight out of mind. Also by doing it this way you wont have to worry about damaging the blank.![]()

apply a little heat from a tourch (this is what I use) to epoxy. keep in mind to not apply to much or the blank will weeken and brake!
Then use a flat razor and cut away the thread and epoxy.... Some of it can be pulled away by hand.......
the older the epoxy the easier it is to get off,,,,,
here is a trick that paul gave me, now this was for a relatively new wrap that had been done wrong by me ( another story entirely)....
take a razor and score the whole wrap, though not deep enougth to cut into the blank, then take a heat gun and heat the line, the whole thing popped off like a bandaid in water.![]()
Thanks guys, The epoxy is less than a week old. I only put a thin coat of CP on the thread and when the epoxy went on...the thread color went away. I just want to take the guides off and redo it. I tested it last night and found that if I apply 2-3 coats of CP...the thread stays pretty true to color once finished.
Thanks again! I'll try the cut and heat method and see how it works. If not, I will be cutting down the guide foot and peeling it off.

Damn, I thought that said a "stripper and a rod". Oh well, moving on.....
