spliciing braid
Having been in the navy I have a knowledge of sampson spliciing and all other ways of working ropes. I am trying the braided lines for my reel and understand that they can be spliced, does anyone make a needle to accomplish this. I am wanting to do this with 30# - 80# braid. I have a good set of opitical glass binocular magnifiers so I should be able to see the little thing for sure...Lynn

just tie a knot. i don't even want to think about trying to splice that tiny little braid, especially if its coated which most smaller braids are. bimini to no-name works real well. Splicing is done with hollowcore braid, and bhp tackle sells those if that is what you are asking about. However, I don't think hollowcore comes any smaller than 60.

splicing braid
Thank you for your post, much appreciated. I was searching in some small parts box's tonight and found my small splicing needle. It was from Cortland used to do long splice and end loops in Cortland greenspot dacron, which is a hollow braid from a long time ago, imagine that. Tight lines and thanks again........Lynn

The splicing needles come with the braid when you buy the line. They come in two ....maybe three sizes. Greenspot makes 30 # braid and yes it can be spliced. It is very easy to do, you can make the double as long as you want very easily, and when done a blind guy cant feel it. I always loved the braid, hate mono, and always spliced it. In fact a knot looks awful.
