Spinning reels that have been dunked in saltwater
Both of my spinning reels were dunked in the saltwater last week. Sand may have got inside one of them. They both need to be taken completely apart and cleaned. I only use these reels once a year for a week and want them to work smoothly and not corrode. These are good reels, one is a Quantim Catalyst CI30PTs and the other is a Diawa Coastal Inshore Coastal 3000. Does anyone know if reels are taken completely apart when I take them to a certified Diawa/Quantum repair shop for a cleaning or do I need to specify that I want the reels torn down completley.
Thanks for your input.

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
My mate is king of dooshing my spin reels in salt . Usually happens when he is wading for bonefish in the Bahamas... Spin reels are more forgiving than conventional. I drop em in a bucket of fresh for a few hours then shake out, open side plates to dry, take off spools, loosen nut on main shaft and lift to expose rotor assmbly lightly lube that stuff. grease inside. Pop out spring holding drag washers on spool and remove washers. Dry and replace washers in same order they came out...

If you send them to the manufacture or a warranty center, you will need to specify what happened to the reel and tell them exactly what service you want performed. I recommend having the reel completely torn down, cleaned and relubed.
I've had many reels sent to me for cleaning because they went in the water and I've seen varying degrees of water/debris intrusion. A couple reels were fine and didn't have much water intrusion at all, others had water and sand in them with the onset of corrosion. You don't want to take a chance.
